Since Tom Hanks has been snubbed this year of a Nomination I figured it was high time i got my Captain Philips review up here. So Captain Philips is based on a true story of a cargo freighter off the coast of Somalia that is attacked by pirates, the crew tries is best to keep control of their ship from the armed assailants, in the confusion the Captain is taken hostage. Basically the movie follows, as the title suggests, Captain Philips and his actions during the ordeal of having his ship attacked then taken hostage. The fact that its based on a true story gives it a depth of realism and life threatening emotions flying every which way. Tom Hanks delivers a fantastic performances, always great to see a Hanks film, and a big surprise Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi performance for his first ever feature film. You can see and feel the characters thoughts, emotions and actions in this movie, I highly recommend it for anyone, I am sad that out of Captain Philips and Saving Mr.Banks Tom Hanks didn't get any well deserved attention but nonetheless this is fantastic movie. Take some time to relax and immerse yourself into real life scenario that made news worldwide.
