With the Oscars right around the corner I figured it was about time I got my Her review up and out there. Her takes place the future where technology has advanced to the point of highly sophisticated AI is common place in hand held devices. Theodore, played by Joaquin Phoenix, is a middle aged man who is in a boring rut, he is getting divorced, his job has become boring, then the form of portable AI is released and Samantha, played by Scarlet Johansson, is brought into the fold. Over the course of the movie Samantha proves to be more than just AI and emotions surge and feelings spout causing drama and a story that is fresh and new. Something that hasn't been seen before. It is a hard movie to discuss but it is certainly worth trying, watching it makes you think things you never thought about, feel things that are odd to us now, and wonder...wonder if this is something that could happen in our near future. The performances given are outstanding and impactful, they stay with you long after the movie is over. This, in my opinion, is a fantastic date movie, not a first date movie...god no not a first date movie. But definitely a great date movie and film in general, emotions, realism, impact, lust, jealousy, curiosity, ect and so on. The amount of things you will feel during the course of this 2 hour movie will astound you. I highly recommend watching this.
