Now its not everyday that a movie comes out that is so universally hated and just all around that it actually kills Batman for nearly 10 years before we got a reboot in Batman Begins. A friend and I were talking and this some how got brought up and I figured.."I know! I should do a blog on it!" So here it is...my opinion on this horrendous excuse for a Batman movie.
Now the cast for this movie was not bad. If they were given a good script, plenty of time, and did not make this movie for the sole purpose of making and selling toys (yes this is in deed true, feel free to look into it) it could of been a ok movie. The action though, sucked, the script was in my honest opinion non existent, the props were so bad that I don't even know what else to say, and constant puns said by EVERYONE through out the movie was enough to make me rip my own ears off. This movie doesn't even a rank between 1-10 so I am going to make one up
Freak-tastic-suck-age!
There you go folks, my short rant on one of the worlds worst movies ever put to film.
Bonus, here is someones attempt to make this movie look good in a short teaser trailer:
So I just now got around to watching this movie because I heard that it was actually pretty good, classic Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick I have to say that I totally agree, it was nostalgic to watch but also enjoyable in a new way. A lot of blood, good timed comedy and 3 hot chicks...what more can a guy ask for? It was a very predicable style movie, no twists or turns so if that what you were expecting...clear your mind of that now. Its a awesome guy flick and as a fan of Arnold's movies this is what I would expect from him. Totally recommend it with a rank of 7/10.
First on the list is The Wolverine! "A haunted Wolverine (Hugh Jackman)
journeys to Japan to bid an old friend farewell, and gets drawn into a conflict
involving ninja and yakuza in stand-alone spin-off set following the events of
X-Men: The Last Stand, and preceding the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past.
The story begins in Nagasaki. As a B-29 bomber appears in the sky and air-raid
sirens howl, panicked Japanese troops begin committing ritual seppuku.
Terrified, yet unwilling to sacrifice his own life, young soldier Yashida takes
cover in a heavily fortified prison pit containing the immortal mutant
Wolverine, who shields him from a deadly blast. Decades later, Wolverine has
sworn off violence after he was forced to kill his beloved Jean Grey (Famke
Janssen). He's confronting a hunter who has been using illegal, poison-tipped
arrows when the sword-wielding Yukio (Rila Fukushima) comes to his aid, and
summons him to Japan at the behest of the dying Yashida (Hal Yamanouchi), now
the head of Japan's largest and most powerful tech giant. Just hours before
passing away, Yashida implores Wolverine to protect his granddaughter Mariko
(Tao Okamato), whom he has personally chosen to take over the family
business -- much to the chagrin of her plotting father Shingen
(Hiroyuki Sanada). When the yakuza attempt a high-profile kidnapping of Mariko
during Yashida's funeral, Wolverine comes to her rescue, and receives some much
needed help from enigmatic ninja Harada (Will Yun Lee). Narrowly escaping with
their lives, Wolverine and Mariko go into hiding with the yakuza and ruthless
mutant Viper (Svetlana Khodchenkova) hot on their trail. But the battle is far
from over, and with Wolverine's healing powers mysteriously diminished, he may
not be able to protect Mariko for long."
I loved this movie, by far the best Wolverine to date in my opinion, and I am totally ignoring Origins....FUCK that movie!
The Mortal Instruments:City of Bones
Number two on the list for the week is The Mortal Instruments:City of Bones."Set in contemporary New York City, a seemingly
ordinary teenager, Clary Fray (Lily Collins), discovers she is the descendant
of a line of Shadowhunters, a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked
in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. After the disappearance
of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of
Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called
Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly
creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series."
I was not a fan of the movie, I do enjoy the books though. Very much. The movie though just seemed small scale and I couldn't get into it.
The Smurfs 2
Next up is The Smurfs 2."In this sequel to the hybrid live action/animated
family blockbuster comedy 'The Smurfs', the evil wizard Gargamel creates a
couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes
will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he
discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants, and only a secret
spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs, Gargamel
kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the
adoration of millions as the world's greatest sorcerer. It's up to Papa,
Clumsy, Grouchy, and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human
friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has
always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties
Vexy and Hackus or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True
Blue? Returning cast includes Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays,
Sofia Vergara, with Katy Perry as Smurfette and Hank Azaria as Gargamel.
Brendan Gleeson joins the cast as Victor. Joining the voice cast are Christina
Ricci and JB Smoove as Vexy and Hackus."
I really enjoyed the first one, it was nostalgic and fun to see a cartoon i grew up with on the big screen in a live action adaptation. That being said, I wasn't as over fond of this one.
Drinking Buddies
Last release of the week which is a smaller scaled movie that I honestly really liked and enjoyed, Drinking Buddies."Kate (Olivia Wilde) and Luke (Jake Johnson) work
together at a craft brewery. They have one of those friendships that feels like
it could be something more. But Kate is with Chris (Ron Livingston), and
Luke is with Jill (Anna Kendrick). And Jill wants to know if Luke is ready to
talk about marriage. The answer to that question becomes crystal clear when
Luke and Kate unexpectedly find themselves alone for a weekend."
Hey everyone and welcome to my spoiler filled review of Disney's Frozen! Yes its a kids movie but that doesn't mean I or anyone for that matter can not enjoy it!
First impressions...I loved it, I had a smile across my face the whole movie, the music, the CG, the story, just everything about this was fantastic. Olaf the snowman was out right hilarious, the interactions between Anna and Kristoff was playful, cute and funny. The twist surrounding the prince I can honestly say didn't see coming.
So right off the bat we get introduced to Anna and Elsa, the 2 main characters, and Elsa's power over winter(which we also find out will get stronger as she grows). The harmless fun they were having was fun to watch. Then when Anna gets struck by Elsa on accident we got our first look at what the flip-side is to her powers and also the trolls! Which were kinda awesome and a nice a surprise, snd here we learn that if she loses control of her powers and strikes the heart her victim will be turned into ice. We also meet Sven and Kristoff here which was a nice introduction into his role later on.
The music/score for this movie was amazing, it made me smile, made me sad, and gave me goosebumps. Watching the journey Anna and Kristoff take to bring back summer from her sisters out of control powers was great CG at work, everything looked beautiful. After Elsa strikes her sister again with magic, this time at her heart. I mentioned the twist surrounding the prince...well for me I totally did not see him pulling a 180 to the villain. Trying to marry Anna just to kill Elsa and take the throne for himself. When Anna gets back to the castle hoping the prince is her true love and can break the curse from her sister and we find out his true motives I actually thought to myself..."Wait...WHAT?! Really Disney?? Talk about random and off to the side." When he shows his true colors and leaves Anna to die...yeah "cold" I know. Luckily Olaf and all his hilarity shows up to save her and turns the light bulb on that Kristoff loves her and that he can save her. Well needless to say that didn't happen! That's right, she was told that "...an act of true love will break the curse." So when she escapes the castle to find Kristoff she just happens to come across the prince about to hack down her sister so she rushes to her side saves her and poof...act of true love...why do we even have Kristoff and the Prince in this movie?...
All in all I enjoyed the movie, give it a 7.5/10 as an adult. But for a family outting movie/kids movie 9/10, its a good time for the family and the kids will really enjoy it.Thanks for reading and if you agree or disagree with my review let me know would love to hear your thoughts. Catch ya later!
Hey everyone and welcome to my spoiler filled review. Yes I said Spoiler filled review, if you haven't seen the movie and hate spoilers check out my Non-spoiler review. Moving on!
Walking into this movie my hopes were not very high, i liked the first one but it wasn't what i was hoping for having just finished the books about a week before hand. BUT this one was a HUGE improvement I thought from the start to finish I was able to dive into the movie and characters. I really liked how they picked up with Katniss(Jennifer Lawrence) having problems readjusting after the games as well as being torn between her feelings for Peeta(Josh Hutcherson) and Gale(Liam Hemsworth). Also have to point out that Donald Sutherland is an amazing bad guy, I actually get chills when hes on screen and I am sure that Jennifer Lawrence has a part to play in that as she has been getting better and better as as an actress with every movie.
I did have 1 very small problem with the movie that at the same time isn't much a problem more of a quirk, I would of liked to see more build up in Peeta and Katniss relationship before the big kiss scene on the beach during the games. There are subtle drops or hints leading into this but just of liked a little more.
The most powerful scene in the movie and my personal favorite was the on stage talk between Katniss and Caesar (Stanley Tucci). Cinna telling her that President Snow (Donald Sutherland) is forcing her to wear the wedding dress she never got to wear to her and Peeta's faked marriage, and that he had built in a secret for her to show off at the end. She walked forward to show off her dress like in the previous movie, the flames engulf it changing it from the white wedding dress to Mocking-jay inspired dress.
I really liked how they kept the scene where Cinna gets attacked by peacekeepers (because of the scene mentioned above) after Katniss is put into her pod. I had actually forgotten that until it happened, and again Jennifer Lawrence(Katniss) delivered a tear jerking performance during that, the fear, the pain and helplessness that just streamed across her face was perfect. Then of course during the games when Mags dies to save Peeta, that was another tear jerking scene...which is a trend with this I'm seeing...
I really loved how they kept the clock arena and brought what I had imagined to life on the big screen. Including the tree that was struck by lightening every hour on the hour. Moving into the end of the movie after Katniss destroys the arena and is saved by Haymitch(Woody Harrelson) and Plutarch(Philip Seymour Hoffman) and goes ballistic when she sees that Peeta is not with them. So much so that shes put to sleep only to wake up next to Gale in district 13. After Gale tells what happened to district 12 (it was burned to the ground by Snow's anger) the multitude of emotions that run across her face was PERFECT, I did not want it to end I was ready to go straight into the third movie from there.
All in all I give this beast of an epic movie a 9/10 and recommend anyone sitting on the fence to get off and see it. Liked my review? Have something to add? Leave a comment and follow me on twitter for movie news and upcoming reviews!
There are 3 new releases to theaters today as the title suggests, Frozen, Homefront, and Black Nativity. I am actually excited for all 3 of these great looking movies and this isnt something that happens very often where everything looks good.
Disney's Frozen is Pixars latest masterpiece that to me looks very promising. The story goes as such : "After the kingdom of Arendelle is cast into eternal winter by the powerful Snow Queen Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), her sprightly sister Anna (Kristen Bell) teams up with a rough-hewn mountaineer named Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and his trusty reindeer Sven to break the icy spell. Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee co-directed this Walt Disney Animation Studios production based on Hans Christian Andersen's beloved fairy tale The Snow Queen." If you'd like to see more check out the trailer posted to this movie on my blog.
Homefront directed by Gary Fleder follows Jason Statham and James Franco : "Hoping to escape from his troubled past, former DEA agent Phil Broker (Jason Statham) moves to a seemingly quiet backwater town in the bayou with his daughter. However, he finds anything but quiet there, for the town is riddled with drugs and violence. When Gator Bodine (James Franco), a sociopathic druglord, puts the newcomer and his young daughter in harm's way, Broker is forced back into action to save her and their home. Based on a novel by Chuck Logan."This one seems interesting to me, getting to see Statham and Franco go at it? Count me in!
Black Nativity is very different from the previously mentioned releases and I think promises to be a very powerful and a possible runner for an Oscar. "Langston (Jacob Latimore), a Baltimore teen raised by a single mother (Jennifer Hudson), travels to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with estranged relatives, the Rev. Cornell Cobbs (Forest Whitaker) and his wife, Aretha (Angela Bassett). However, Langston soon finds that Cobbs has strict rules, and the youth is unwilling to follow them. Instead, he sets out on a return journey to his mother and finds the value of faith, healing and family along the way."
Well that is it for releases as of now, which ones are you most excited about? Seem them already? Tell me what you thought about them. Until next time!
Warner Bros. Registered possible Man of Steel 2 Titles
As the title suggests Warner Bros. has registered these possible titles :
“Man of Steel Battle the Knight”,
“Man of Steel Beyond Darkness”,
“Man of Steel Black of Knight”,
“Man of Steel Darkness Falls”,
“Man of Steel Knight Falls”,
“Man of Steel Shadow of the Night”,
“Man of Steel The Blackest Hour”, and
“Man of Steel The Darknness Within”.
I know a lot of people are really attached to the title "Worlds Finest" and I am not goning to lie I am as well, but I still have to say these titles are great too for a different reason. It is clearly telling us that it is in fact a Man of Steel sequel which is something I was hoping for. What do you all think of the titles they have registered? Like them? Not sure about them? Hate them? Let me know your thoughts!
Disney's Frozen hits theaters November 27th and I love me some good animated movies, I don't care how old I get Disney movies will always be near and dear to me and with Frozen coming soon and me being super excited for it, here is the trailer...
These are great fun, funny, comedy action filled movies. I honestly wasn't too sure about these from the trailers but I am glad I took the time to watch these. Would make great date movies, the action mixed with just the right amount of comedy really did it for me. Besides the Die Hard movies easily some of Bruce Willis best movies to date. The twist in RED 2...totally didn't see it coming, then again I could just be gullible. ANYWAYS! Moving on, so many movies to see and sooo many more to blog about.
Now, I am not gonna talk much about this movie...BUT, I just finished watching. It has been on my list of movies to get to for awhile and finally found the time. I have to say it was way better than I was expecting. I am not usually a high school movie plot fan because they are all very similar in my opinion but this one touched on a lot things that you don't see much. I enjoyed watching it, could get a good sense o the characters, their problems and how they met them face to face. I give it a solid 8/10 and recommend it as a possible date movie(not a first date movie!)
This review is by far very late but considering that this blog is only 2 days old I hope no one will hold it against me. I saw this movie in theaters opening night and absolutely LOVED it. This was the re-imagination I was hoping and waiting for. I enjoyed the direction, cast and view they decided to take on Superman here.
I enjoyed how we got to see more of Krypton at the beginning almost like you could reach out and touch it or feel it. Getting a more in depth understanding of the world Superman comes from. The build up of Zod's character is brilliantly done and I am very positive that it was all due to Micheal Shannon's talents.
The skipping of Superman's origin story and just getting flashbacks of important points was great, that was by far one of the biggest things I was afraid of walking into the theater was that we as an audience was going to be tortured by Superman's origin story even though I am positive there is no one alive today that doesn't know it by heart. So seeing him as an adult right off the back, hes lost and trying to find himself and his way/place in the world was very relieving. One of my favorite scenes in the movie was the bar scene, seeing this tiny drunk angry man throwing beer in Clarks face was just priceless, even better followed by Clark destroying the mans semi-truck with the very logs he was hauling.
Its here we get our first glimpse at Lois, and I wasn't overly impressed but I wasn't disappointed either, she is a important character in the Superman mythos after all. Was good that she was portrayed as a smart, strong and capable woman that later in the movie finds out that Clark Kent is Superman.
Skipping ahead towards the end with all the major fights, a lot of people were disappointed in this because its shown, I thought clearly, that people were dying and Superman wasn't trying to stop it. Well to that I say...WHAT ARE YOU BLIND?? What exactly was it that you think he was doing? Standing back just watching these technology advanced aliens take over and destroy the world? No, he was fighting! With everything that he had, Whether he is Superman or not, he is still only one man against an army. There were going to be casualties, but have to look at the flip side if he did nothing, the world would of been decimated. Then the other problem people had was that Superman snapped Zod's neck. Now here I can see where a lot people were coming from, because those that are not comic readers are not going to know that he has killed when there was NO other choice. When you talking about someone who is equally as strong as Superman, and Kryptonite and the phantom zone are no longer options or don't exist your left between a rock and a hard place leaving no other option. And with the direction and universe they want to setup for this version of Superman I thought it was very well done and planned out. They even showed his pain and hate for what he did in the emotion on his face and outrageous shout.
All in all I loved this movie and can not wait for Man of Steel 2 coming in 2015. Agreed with my review? Didn't? Leave a comment and let me know whats on your minds and what you maybe hope to see in Man of Steel 2.
The Hunger Games : Catching Fire Non-Spoiler Review
So I made it to the first day release of The Hunger Games : Catching Fire 11/21/2013 and I was very much on the fence for this installment of the franchise. The first one I was not overly impressed with and walked into this one really hoping that they fixed the pacing, and the severe deviations from the book content. And I have to say that I was blown away by Catching Fire. It addressed everything that I was fearing and then some. If like me you were unsure about this one I would suggest watching it. It was all on it's own an epic movie even if you have never seen the first one, the character depth and growth through out the movie was fantastic and the cast choice's worked out great. I plan to see this movie at least another 2 times before it leaves theaters. I don't want to say too much in fear of giving a lot away so if you liked this post and want to hear more in depth in a spoiler filled review check out my youtube channel at Fedora Movie Goer. Thanks and keep enjoying great films all!
