Alright...so this review is a little behind but I heard it was a less than good movie so it got pushed down my list to see....now that I have though...ugh. So Lucy stars Scarlet Johannson and is a movie about unlocking hidden potential in our breains through the introduction of a new chemical/drug. Is the premise good? Yes. Was the execution done correctly? No. The film was hard to follow and various scenes were too long. Even the acting to me seemed shoddy at best. Over all I had a less than good time watching this, everything about it except the syfy sequences was poorly done and the story seemed to be all over the place, even the ending was blah.
Sadly I must give Lucy...2 Fedoras out of 10...by far the worst rating I have done so far.
If you enjoyed this movie, more power to you. But from what i have gathered it was pretty universally disliked.
Guardians of the Galaxy!! Marvel has done it again...full on blown me away with great graphics and a fantastic origin story that gave me everything I needed to know about these characters that until this film I had never heard of. To give a little info on the film with out giving anything away, the film follows, for the most part, Start Lord and Gamora with Rocket and Grute as comedic relief and let me say now...they are the best part of the movie. Drax was a weak character and the actor was not overly great either but he worked for the limited screen time he had so no real complaints there. The story follows these misfits who get drawn together by a series of random events that get them locked up and forced to work together to escape. Wont say any more than that because...I hate spoilers...I will say that it is a great origin film that gives some history and context to the other Marvel films as well.
I give Guardians of the Galaxy...
8.5 Fedoras out of 10!!!
If your wondering why its not a higher score that's because the movie was not perfect, some scenes were dumb, others seemed out of place for me but over all it was a good Marvel film that introduced more of the vast cinematic world/universe they are trying to create.
So I dragged my little bro with me to catch the new TMNT movie opening night. Now allow me to give my thoughts!! Before I walked into the theater I had to do some serious mental preparation because this is a franchise that I grew up with and LOVE. I knew it was not going to be the same. They were going to update the characters to modern teens, alter the history to fit their vision and to top it off...Michael Bay was slightly involved...and I am not a huge Bay fan. With that said though, I thought it was a fairly solid reboot to the franchise. However, the story could of been layered better, some scenes were too long, others weren't long enough. Making certain points that they wanted you to invest in that much harder. Also the Shredder...was a very weak villain, they focused soo much on April in this adaptation that they had to add Sack's, the Shredders protege and main face to the villains in this movie. Leaving the Shredder as more of a name and giant metal suit than the bad ass we all know from past films and comics. Would I watch this movie? Yes I probably would because even though it has its faults, the new turtles were everything I wanted them to be except the lack of depth they seemed to leave out, but if you know your turtle history you'll get it.
Now then...I give Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(2014)....
7 Fedoras out of 10!!!
I was by no means a perfect film, but I did have a good time, there were certain aspects I did not care for, the CGI at time being one, things being over saturated/cartoonized. But I want another one and with hopes that the problems I have with this one will be addressed. What about you all? Thoughts? Agree with me or disagree I want to hear it!
I am very sorry. Some how after I typed these reviews up they never got posted. You all have my deepest apologies and here are the reviews for the last 3 movies I have made time to catch.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes...Holy crap! This is by far the best movie of the summer so far. If you enjoyed the first one you will not be even the slightest bit disappointed with the sequel. When this franchise got the reboot treatment I was skeptical to say the least. But I thought the last one was hands down a great a film. And this one...it took the already intriguing story and characters from the first and made them so much better. Deeper. And all around more bad ass. The apes look so life like I actually forgot that i was CGI while I was watching. I got completely engrossed in the movie, the emotion, everything. Also for a 2 hour movie...it felt more like 1 1/2 by the end. I can not wait to see more of this world they have created.
Now for the score....I give Dawn of the Planet of the Apes...
9 Fedoras out of 10!
I highly recommend this movie, but if you did not watch the first. You should, and then watch this one. I personally am not a fan of the old ones...never got into them. These are nothing like them.
Sex Tape...sounds like a bad porn movie made for theaters. Anyways! Sex Tape is one the dumbest movies I have seen lately...It really tried hard to be funny but every other scene was too long, the jokes/comedic timing of situations just did not work for me. My aunt that saw this with me loved it however. She laughed through out the whole thing. While I only chuckled a few times. So unfortunately....
I must give Sex Tape a score of 4 Fedoras out of 10...Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel had great chemistry but over all the movie was a flop for me. Was a boring time with half baked story.
"I AM HERCULES!!!!"....We all know the quote fro the trailers...now here is my opinion of the movie it self! So we all know that early this year there was another Hercules movie that came out that I hope...like me...everyone is trying to forget. And f your having trouble with that...watch this movie! The Rock was made for this role, he did the best he could with what he was given...I know right now that wording has gt you wondering if I liked or hated or the movie. Let me tell you. I enjoyed this movie. BUT, it was not without its issues. I expect a certain level of corny though when I see anything Hercules related because of the history/mythology of the character. Had they made this a more adult oriented movie and changed up the dialogue a little here and there this would of a been a very passable history action flick. And even though this was 100% better than The Legend of Hercules from earlier this year...Heads up...the trailers for this movie were/are very very misleading...
My score for Hercules is...6.5 Fedoras out of 10! Not a horrible movie, but it certainly could of been soo much more...
Again to all those that read and enjoy my small opinions on movies I am sorry that these ones never made it up earlier. I will be more cautious in the future to make sure you get my reviews closer to the release dates so you can make/have more time to see the ones that are worth the time!
Well...now that I have found some time since seeing this several days ago, lets talk transforming robot things!! As a warning/FYI I walked into this movie with reduced standards because...well its a freaking Transformers movie. Does that mean I hate the movies? No, it means to me they are in your face constant explosions, crappy acting and dialog. But they are crazy fun to watch and enjoy. Transformers has never been meant to be great films, they are meant to be entertaining action flicks you can coast through and enjoy the pretty colors and awesome looking robots. If this offends you...stop reading. LOL My only real complaint is that the robots in this one looks much cheaper and more cartoon like than in the previous films which took some getting use to. I guess another thing would be that it was WAY TO DAM LONG!! Holy crap....by the end my behind was numb. If you really love the Transformers movies you should totally enjoy this, if you not so crazy about them but want some brainless explosions and awesome robot fights then you might want to consider checking it out and making your own opinion if it was worth it or not.
I give Transformers Age of Extinction....4 Fedoras out of 10 as a overall movie score.
But as a Transformers Michael Bay explosion porn video I give it.... 8.5 Fedoras out of 10
Ok, so after I saw this a couple days ago I needed time to think about it to give it a fair shake...but honestly, no matter how much I think about it...I still just can not get a point where I think it was a great movie, but does that mean I think it was bad? No, there were parts and aspects that I actually enjoyed. If I had to pick between this Tom Cruise movie and Oblivion thought...I would pick Oblivion every time. I loved the premise and the look of this movie but there was something about watching that actually annoyed me. Even gave me a headache. My only conclusion is that it was the montage of "Wake up maggot!"...every time we actually got something new and the story changed and progressed it kept me engaged and interested. But as I said there were parts really annoyed me about the "groundhog day" repeats. Although I must admit that seeing Tom get shot over and over did help to make up for that. For those curious about the plot...the movie follows Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt who are soldiers fighting in a war against alien invaders that can control time. And when Tom kills one of these aliens he somehow gains that some ability, and from there the film take many twists and unexpected turns that all together make for a very interesting and new feeling sci-fy film. Do I recommend people see this in theaters? I do, the scale and feel of the conflicts, the characters interactions and looks of the aliens demand to be seen on the big screen at least once and I don't think you will be disappointed. The movie does require to think a little, its not brainless violence or reused plots (at least not that I can think of atm) so go expecting to pay attention.
Now the moment everyone has waited for...I give the Edge of Tomorrow...
7.5 Fedora's out of 10
it was a refreshing sci-fy film and if you like Tom Cruise action you should really enjoy this. Even if your not a Tom fan you will get engaged with the premise.
So I watched this a few days ago actually but I have been crazy busy with work...so now that I have time. LETS TALK COMEDY!! I had read and watched a few reviews about this movie before I saw it, which normally I don't do that. But for sequels it normally isn't an issue for me, especially for a comedy. I did genuinely enjoy this though. I was afraid that it might be repetitive and boring but I laughed really hard at certain parts and the ones I didn't laugh at I shook my head at them. So the film at least kept me engaged and the chemistry between Hill and Tatum carried over great from the first one, and I even really liked that the Ice Cube had a bigger role. T sum up this movie without giving anything away is best said by...if you have seen the first one then you understand half of this movies plot, only they added a few things and changed a few others. So you get what made the first one work and new comedy/story to get you engaged. Would I say this is the best comedy of the year?....Actually...as of right now...yes I would. Mostly because so far this year I have not been impressed by the comedy films that have been released. I could not get into Neighbors, I really disliked Ride Along and I have yet to see Think like a Man too.
All in all, I give 22 Jump Street 7.5 Fedoras out of 10 because I thought it was a hilarious movie, but it wasn't totally original so 7.5 is as high as I want to go.
I have already seen this movie twice, once on opening night and again the following morning with my girlfriend before work. If you have not read my review of the first one to understand my enthusiasm then probably should.
This ended up being one those rare films that surpasses the original. The character development that you see here from the first one was great, the humor that worked so good in the first one continued to carry over to this one but the best part about this movie....NOTHING was dumbed down for the kids. Adults can walk into this movie and not worry about just getting a good kids movie. How to train your dragon 2 is just overall an amazing movie. The aerial shots in this movie looks amazing, the characters feel almost organic both in appearance and even on the emotional level. I won't lie to you...I actually teared up 3-4 times watching this. As said, this i not just a great a kids film its just a great movie in general, the emotional moments are emotional, the fun and funny moments are fun/funny for everyone, the characters are more layered and of course grown up than the previous film. The CG in this one compared to the first is breathtaking. a lot of scenery shots actually looked real the CG was that crisp and clean.
Now lets talk plot a little without giving much away. The story takes place 5 years after the first one, all the teens are now in their early 20s late teens, and Berk, where they live, has stopped fighting the dragons and now instead keeps them as pets and friends. Hiccup has become his villages hero. Everything seems to be great until they hear about someone who is building a dragon army and sweeping across the known world. Hiccup and Toothless head out to stop him. If you want to know more I suggest you find time to head to a theater near you to see this.
I give How to train your dragon 2....9 Fedoras out of 10!!!
Can't wait for a third one!!! Please let there be a third one!!
I figured before I give my opinion on the new one I should take a few to say how much I reall love this franchise. So here we go. The first one actually came out around my birthday and the only thing I wanted to do was see it. I know...I;ma rather boring person for the most part, I really love movies, and something about this one really caught my eye. It did not disappoint. How to train your dragon is one of my favorite animated movies, I loved the concept, the characters, he humor, the dragons and the CG. Was it a perfect movie? No, but I loved it. The movie, as most everyone should know, follows Hiccup who is by viking standards a runt. No one expects anything from him and that is pretty much what they get. During a raid/attack on the village though he strikes down a dragon they call a Night Fury. Of course no one believes him so he go to find it in the woods. when he finds it and decides not to finish it off but instead free it from the net he tangled it in. A rather weird friendship starts to take place. From there the movie shows their growing understanding of each other and of course their kinship. This knowledge that Hiccup gains proves useful when he is thrown into something his father(who is the viking chief by the way) calls dragon training. Where young vikings learn how to kill the dragons. Hiccup starts to show promise and gains jealousy from the girl he has a crush on, Astrid. And here is where I will stop because I love this movie too much to ruin the ending for anyone that possibly has not seen this is yet. So if you have agreed with any of my reviews to now...take my word and watch this movie, because I have...again and again HAHA.
Well, it has been awhile since I last wrote here. Mt new job has been proving to make seeing movies and writing reviews on them rather difficult. But fear not!!! I will continue watch movies and get reviews to you as quickly as I can. With that covered, lets talk about Disney's Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie, I personally walk into each movie I see with a different expectation of what I want to see. And this one certainly reached the expectation I had for it and then some. It is a truly beautiful movie to look at, I enjoyed the new take on a Disney classic and as many have already stated...Angelina was born for this role. holy crap, she owned this character. I can't think of anyone else I would of rather seen. Now I am not going to get into the movie too much because I hate spoilers that's why I do separate spoiler reviews sometimes. But I will say tht you go into this movie not expecting just a live action re-hash of their animated movie and take this for its own standalone take on familiar characters. You WILL enjoy this movie, potentially even love it. My sister and mom thought it was amazing, my older brother enjoyed and I was very happy with it. My only gripe is about the narrating through the first half of the movie, it was not constant but the few I did hear it I personally could of done without. That I think is just a preference because the people I was with did not mind it.
So all in all I have to give Maleficent...7.5 Fedora's out of 10. It was a enjoyable time that adults and kids can enjoy with truly beautiful graphics and artwork.
I have had some time to think about the film now, so lets talk about the most EPIC X-Men movie to date!!! Without giving too much away DOFP takes place in both the past and future, Wolverine with the help of Kitty's new powers has to transport his mind back in time to 1973 to prevent their apocalyptic future from ever happening. The main characters are Jennifer Lawrence(Mystique), Hugh Jackman(Wolverine), Patrick Stewart(Old Professor X), Ian McKellen(Old Magneto), James McAvoy(Young Professor X) and Micheal Fassbender(Young Magneto). That is by no means all of the cast but that is center piece with Peter Dinklage(Dr.Bolivar Trask) and Nicholas Hoult(Beast) with a constant appearance throughout. The massive cast and over abundance of talent that was gathered for this movie is crazy, and although some is wasted by lack of lines and screen time, you can not argue with the end result. This movie is THE GREATEST X-MEN MOVIE TO DATE!! It completely lived up to its hype. From start to finish the amazing story, characters, CGI and actors grab your attention and take you on a mind blowing twist of past actions leading to future problems. And like the film critic Jeremy Jahn's said...this film really is about "Hope". Its hard to say much about the film specifically without revealing spoilers so I will end this here with...GO SEE THIS MOVIE. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF AMAZING FILMS, FANTASTIC ACTING, MIND BENDING STORY AND OF COURSE...SUPERHEROES. THERE IS NOTHING YOU WILL REGRET ABOUT MAKING TIME TO SEE THIS ENSEMBLE OF CHARACTERS AND CAST ON THE BIG-SCREEN TOGETHER. P.S. There is a end credit scene so be sure to stick around.
If you have seen this movie already, give me your thoughts...I give X-Men Days of Future Past...
The new trailer dropped and Marvel made a bid deal out of it so if you haven't seen it yet...what rock are you living under??? With that covered, lets talk about the new footage we got of the strangest Marvel movie to date.
First lets talk about Groot, since he never has much to say I will just say that I think he looks awesome and Vin's voice was a great choice. Now lets discuss Rocket...voiced by Bradley Cooper and I personally think that just like Olaf made Frozen...Rocket is going to own this movie. People are going to walk out and start talking about the foul mouthed gun touting raccoon. The other three we have had better shots of already but I will say again that I love Chris Pratt and Zoe in these roles. I think this movie is going to be the biggest surprise of the summer. I love the look and tone/feel they are going for. At first I wasn't sure what it reminded me until I watched me some AMC Movie talk...Serenity is what I was thinking of. If this turns out to be the next Serenity...I will be over the moon happy with the summer blockbusters this year. So what are your thoughts? Let me hear them!!
Godzilla!!...The king of monsters and one of the most iconic characters in the world of cinema. I went into this really hoping for some bad ass monster fighting and of course to see Godzilla command the screen...and I did...sort of, the movie felt epic, larger than life and something so far out of the realm of possibility but.. I really think that the movie should of focused more on Godzilla and the other monsters. The human aspect was good, but that isn't what I personally went into a Godzilla movie to see. I wanted to see the monsters. With that said I thought the shots and scenes we did get with Godzilla and the other monsters were absolutely outstanding. He looked MASSIVE, POWERFUL, and completely like something out of myth/legend. By no means was this a horrible movie or a waste of time, if you are a monster movie fan, Godzilla fan, destruction fan, ect and so on then you will have a good time. I don't think you will be disappointed with the way Godzilla looks or fights. The over use of the human aspect on the other hand...it might pull you out of it. Again and as always this is just my opinion and experience from watching the movie. And as much fun as I had watching Godzilla kick ass and take names...
I have to give Godzilla (2014) a
7 Fedora's out of 10 (7/10)
Hopefully if we get another one we will see more of an emphases on the monsters with more actual screen time but the movie was still a good time and worth a see.
So I finally had the chance to see Neighbors thanks to my GF wanting to see it for her birthday tonight. Honestly wish we had seen Godzilla instead....I was personally very underwhelmed by the movie, it to me did not live up to its hype. I won't lie, it had its funny moments and redeeming areas but over all I was not overly impressed and neither was the GF. Luckily I salvaged her outing with some dinner and my amazing charms *wink*. Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne were the only good comedic moments for me. Zac and everyone else from the frat did a great job but the comedy just fell flat for me more times than it worked. It could be because I don't enjoy that kind of company, parties, drugs, ect so I just couldn't relate with the characters... I don't think I am making the most sense at the moment but I can't really find the words to describe just how blah I found the film. And it has nothing to do with the cast, I thought the chemistry and comedic timing was spot on from everyone, one of Seth's better performances recently, although for me I am going to have to give Neighbors a....
So yesterday was mothers day and my mom wanted to see this so I took her to see it. And I was pleasantly surprised by it as just a comedy. The tone was very heavy Christian/religion but it wasn't so bad that it ruined my enjoyment for the film. Everything about this whether your a mom or not is relatable and easy to understand, the comedy was good for constant chuckles and light laughing through out but obviously I am not the target demographic so if your a mom take my opinion for what it is...a by stander that took his mom to what she wanted to see. But I did have a good time, the bikers were great, the cast was funny, the chemistry seemed to project well to the audience and the kids...holy crap the kids...luckily my mom told me I was never that bad, I think if they were mine I would of gone nuts also... Anyways!! I recommend this movie once you've seen, Spiderman 2, Captain America 2, Neighbors and Divergent and your just looking for a nice night out.
I give it 5 Fedora out of 10 as an overall score
and
a 7.5 Fedoras out of 10 for what it was trying to be. Simply because I did laugh through out and have a good time.
Finding time to write on here is getting harder and harder. But nonetheless!!! We have a new Amazing Spiderman movie to talk about and there was no way I was missing that. So I took my gf with me opening night right after work to catch it, mostly because I personally really liked the last one. I thought it was a great reboot to a "amazing" hero. Besides Superman, Spiderman is among my favorite comic book heroes. With that said, lets about the new one shall we. So The Amazing Spiderman 2 features Green Goblin, Electro, and Rhino. Also SPOILER!! Gwen Stacey's death. Everyone's biggest concern with this this movie was there possibly being too many villains, I can honestly tell you there is not. Much like avengers Marc Webb found a great way to space out the villains screen times making the movie very balanced I thought. Even the action was spaced out nicely. My only annoyance was that I personally felt that Gwen's death was rushed, but much like the first one Emma Stone does great as Gwen Stacey, we got to learn more about her but maybe it was just me maybe it wasn't(lets talk about that below). I really enjoyed how we got to see Spiderman the way we see him in the comics, very much a smart ass, very strong, fast and of course smart. Among the Sam Raimi Spiderman movies the thing I hated most was the time Peter Parker was on screen, thankfully Andrew Garfield does not cause this feeling, I actually enjoyed the Peter Parker scenes. I want to say its because there is actually a sense of depth to the character in this reboot that we didn't have before. Speaking of depth, lets talk Dane Dehaan, aka Harry Osborn, aka Green Goblin. I think Dane was a fantastic Harry and a terrifying Goblin. We don't get enough of him in this movie to make any serious judgments I don't think...while we are on the villain subject though lets talk about Jaime Foxx...before he became Electro I honestly could not stand his character Max. He was so crazy, showed no confidence, had a hard on Spiderman since he was saved by him at the start of the movie. As soon as he became Electro though...I think Jamie killed it. He was able to bring a sense of life to the character, making him likable and scary. And the final villain...Rhino, he has about 10 min of total screen time through the entire movie...but the ending scene Paul Giamatti rocks it. I just really hope we get to see more of him in Spiderman 3. Obviously there is sooo much we could talk about for this movie but that would a lot to type, so lets end here and open it up to you all, what were your thoughts about this movie? I want to hear them!! By the way....8.5/10!!!
This last week Dreamworks released the first 5 min of HTTYD 2 online...watch below first then we can talk about it a little.
Obviously nothing over the top in just 5 min of the movie, but I really like it. The aging of the characters, the flying scenes look fantastic, Toothless as always is charming. I had already planned to see this on release because I really liked the first one, now I know for sure I will be there opening day for this. Everything just looks soo smooth and crisp.
Warner Bros has slammed us with some rather AWESOME news this past 2 weeks, first with the announcement of Cyborg being attached to Man of Steel 2 in the form of his human body, Vic Stone played by Broad Way stage performer Ray Fisher. He wont have a big role, it will most likely be a small cameo to set up for the live action Justice League that has been announced for 2017. There is also a rumor that it will be shot back to back with Man of Steel 2 so maybe if we are lucky it could see it sooner than 2017.
Director Zach Snyder also talked about how Batman got into talks for Man of Steel 2...
Seems pretty legit to me and of course makes sense, once you name drop Batman...everything seems weak. He also talked about the costumes in his office for the film, mostly about how he would love to show us...but that isn't his call haha.
Ok, so I have been told by countless people that I really need to watch this because it is a pleasant surprise of a movie. So I finally watched it, and actually watched a second time right after because it was such a fun movie to watch. And because I had such a fun time watching it, it's hard for me to tell if its a good movie or not. So instead of all that I will just talk about what I liked about it. First off, the singing actually. I actually really enjoyed the singing in this musical comedy. I will say right now that I am NOT a MUSICAL fan, I hate musical movies for the most part. There are exceptions to this of course but a general statement...ugh. Anyways, I liked it here, was fun, was catchy and worked well for me. The other thing I loved was the comedy and the character interactions, Fat Amy killed it here, and the surprise vomit at the start from Aubrey was awesome, it really set the tone I thought, it's what got me instantly interested in the movie. Obviously the movie centers on Beca, so we can't talk about this movie without touching base there some. I really enjoyed the plot around her, was nothing new or special but it was grounded and easy to get into, something anyone can relate to. So needless to say again, I really had a fun time with this movie, made me laugh, made me cheer on in the inside, and caught myself dancing in my seat a little honestly. Thanks to everyone that told me to watch this relentlessly!
Recently Channing spoke out more about his possible Gambit role and his "talks" with Lauren Donnor over at Fox.
I have to say that it starting to look more an more likely that he may be our next Gambit, and he sounds excited about it every time which makes me want to believe that he can do it. So for now I am on board with the IDEA of him POSSIBLY playing Gambit in a future X-Men movie because lets be clear, nothing has been confirmed or set in stone just yet. Fox is waiting to see how Days of Future Past does and I think it will blow our minds and remind us of how good the first 2 X-Men movies were.
